10 Tips to Cleanup Household Junk | Hassle-Free Guide | 2022 Updated

Messy House

The biggest reason why people keep unwanted items is their emotional attachment to them. They bought and used it once or twice and then kept it in their closet hoping they might need it someday.

Now when you’ve accumulated junk in your house, it is time to clean up and create more room for incoming items that will benefit you.

Decluttering your home may feel exhausting and overwhelming, but trust me it is fun and enjoyable.

Here  I’ve created a straightforward and powerful guide on “How to Cleanup household junk and declutter your space.”

01: Set Guidelines

You can’t build a house without a blueprint or explore a jungle without a map.

It is really important to set guidelines to understand what items you want to throw out and how long you believe this project should take.

Obviously, it helps a lot as creating just an outline tricks your brain into thinking half of the job is already done.

02: Start With The Easiest One

For example, start with the kitchen first as it is the place where everyone in your house visit, and items that you don’t need any longer are easier to spot.

For instance, an oven that has been lying there dead for 2 years means that you’ve learned to compensate for your life without it so you definitely don’t need it.

Throw it away!

If you’re a person like me who mostly eats healthy food made at home then the disposable cutlery you’ve is no longer needed.

Consignment packets usually won’t last any long and old calendars which are outdated(no pun intended!) should be in the dustbin.

If the calendar has some important dates marked then take a snap of it on your phone.

In addition to this, expired items like old ketchup bottles, pickles, coupons, and as well as electronics like a bad toaster are another hassle to keep.

Throwing them away won’t cause an impact on your kitchen’s beauty or productivity.

03: Move Towards Heavier Rooms

The bedroom is literally the den of unwanted items and rubbish like old chips packet, empty cans of energy drinks that you used to hide from your parents, unpaired socks, worn-out clothes, old comic books, school notebooks, and pre-college collectibles, toys that you no longer need.

These should also be packed in a bag separately and taken out of your house.

After cleaning up other spaces now you can move towards the garage which might seem horrible but with little help from your siblings or partner will make it smooth.

04: Recheck Everything

Remember when I told you to make a list before decluttering?

Well, now we need it again!

Recheck all the unnecessary items you’ve created the pile of and see if there is something missing in it.

Moreover, maybe accidentally you did put something useful in the bags like a greeting card that your loved ones once wrote especially for you and you really need to keep it through your whole life.

After rechecking everything now is the time to see how to throw everything out hassle-free.

05: Put Items on Garage Sale

One Man’s Trash is Another Man’s Treasure.”

I remember when I bought a book “Think and Grow Rich” for less than a dollar from a garage sale which helped me a lot in personal grooming.

The garage sale is really a popular culture that helps you earn money from your unwanted items and greatly helps in recycling.

06: Donate Items into Charity

Another way of helping the community is by donating your non-useful items like old pots, utensils, clothes, books, mattresses, pans, old furniture, etc to support and shelter agencies that focus on providing daily life usage items to needy and homeless people and help them stand on their feet.

Alternatively, you can donate books, laptops, Pcs, and electronics to Rural Libraries and to Daycare Centers and be a philanthropist to help those who couldn’t afford them.

Local junk haulers also provide this service. They pick up items from you and deliver them to charity organizations. You can book an appointment here.

07: Sell them Online

Classified websites like Craigslist and eBay are the best ways to sell your old items like toolkits, utensils, off-road tires, and sofa to internet users, and earn some extra buck from it.

08: Sell them to Consignment Shops

Apart from this, you can also sell your junk items which are antique like telephone of your grand father, guitar, and other stuff to thrift stores and pawn shops.

Without a doubt, there are people who may be interested in these items and willing to pay the price it deserve.

How to Get Rid of the Remaining Stuff?

09: Dumpster Rental

Now the remaining items might be panicking you.

This is the real junk that needs to be taken off ASAP!

You can rent a dumpster which is pretty cheap and affordable to almost everyone. But one drawback is that all the effort to put bulky items in it is on your shoulders.

Here is a detailed Dumpster vs Junk Removal Service comparison for you.

You can check which one suits your need.

10: Hire Professional Junk Removal Service

If you don’t want to go through all of this hassle and you have got a busy schedule then you can hire a professional junk removal service.

Their team of bigger trucks, trained and well-equipped workers.

They are pricey but get the job done in just 2 hours, no matter how big the junk is.

Their pricing is based on the volume of junk.

If you’re a Californian then you just dial up the number and get a free estimate at home!

Wrap Up

You might not know but cleaning your home is a really fun activity and donating stuff to others is what keeps this cycle of the world continuing and keep growing.
